instadose™ Dosimeter

instadose™ radiation monitoring is a service that includes the use of a small, rugged USB dosimeter based on patented direct ion storage technology. The customer pays an annual fee for use of the dosimeter and AMP online monitoring service.

instadose uses breakthrough technology that provides radiation workers with a precise measurement of radiation dose and includes accurate long-term exposure tracking. A built-in memory chip stores each user's identity via an embedded unique serial code that is assigned to the user.

Now users have the flexibility to view their radiation dose at any time from any computer with internet access. Readings via a PC are enabled by a USB compatible detector. Once a user receives instadose they must first register at: During the registration process the instadose driver and client are installed on the users’ computer and the device is initialized for use.

When a user wishes to obtain a reading they simply log-in to their account, plug-in instadose to a USB port and click Read Device. The accumulated dose stored on instadose is processed through a proprietary algorithm. This fully automated transfer of data minimizes the chance of human error and misidentification. Once complete a graphical representation of the current dose will load on the screen.

A variety of reports are available for download through the online AMP (Account Management Program). The reports include:

  • Radiation Exposure Summary Report
  • History Detail Report
  • Who Has Not Read Their Device
  • Form 5 (USA only)
  • Patented direct ion storage technology
  • USB compatible detector
  • Dose readings performed online by end user
  • Small lightweight design
  • Minimum Reportable Dose: 3 mrem (0.03 mSv)
  • Lower Limit of Detection: 1 mrem (0.01 mSv)
  • Useful Dose Range: 3 mrem - 500 rem (0.03 mSv - 5 Sv)
  • Energy Response: Photon 5 keV - 6 MeV

Accreditations/Approvals/Licenses: In the United States under NVLAP (lab code: 100555-0) in the UK under HSE and various other country accreditations.

instadose Adheres to the ALARA Principle

AMP (Account Management Program) provides customers with secure online account management. It's fast, simple, and free!

With AMP, account administrators can manage all the elements of a radiation monitoring program online anytime, from anywhere. From account administration to managing individual wearers and devices, AMP will give you real time access to account details, device assignments, reports, and all your pertinent account information.

AMP restricts users within an account from seeing other wearers' data and from making changes to the main account. The account administrator assigns each instadose™ device to a specific user. Each device has an embedded unique serial code that gets assigned to an individual user.

A few of the functions that are accessible by the account administrator include:

Main Account Information

  • Contact information
  • Company information
  • Change password
  • View orders
  • Add administrator

Manage Locations - Separate and track badges for each department in a facility or for offices in other regions with options to manage locations:

  • Details of the wearers in the location
  • Report information
  • Add/Edit/Delete/Reinstate locations

Manage Wearers - Administrators can view user data by location or perform individual searches:

  • Details of a wearer and assignment location and groups.
  • Add/Edit/Delete/Reinstate Wearers

Devices - Administrators can perform the following functions with each instadose device within their account:

  • Purchase additional devices
  • Edit/Cancel/Reinstate devices
  • Assign and transfer between wearers
  • Order replacement devices

Reports Section - Administrators can select from various types of reports and view the reports for each user within their account:

  • Review who has not read their device (last 30 days available only)
  • Radiation Exposure Summary Report
  • Form 5 Report
  • History Detail Report

Once an administrator sets-up a user within their account, a user can log into AMP and get real-time readings by inserting their assigned device into a USB port on any internet-connected PC or Mac.
Users will have access to the following areas within AMP:

Log-In Information:

  • Change user password

Report Section- Users can view various types of reports about their own dosage history:

  • Radiation Exposure Summary Report
  • Total Dose Report
  • History Detail Report

Frequently Asked Questions

How Do I Create an Account Within AMP?
You will need a user name and password. If you purchased the instadose devices from HealthFirst you can obtain your username and password by callilng instadose™ Customer Support at 800 251 3331. You must provide the serial #s located on each dosimeter.

How Do I Assign an Instadose™ device to a User?
The instadose reader software will be downloaded during the registration process. Each device must be activated by completing the four step registration process during which devices can be assigned to users. Users are assigned a username and temporary password. Users will be prompted to change the password the first time logging into AMP.

Can Someone Else Obtain a Reading from My Device?
No, each device has a unique serial number embedded into the device. Once the device is registered to an individual, that device is associated with that wearer. To obtain a dose reading from the device you must login to AMP (Account Management Program). Unless you have the username and password associated with that device you will not have access.

How Long Can I Keep an Instadose Device?
Unlike other x-ray badges on the market that need to be returned for processing to obtain dose levels, the technology behind instadose allows users to perform their own dose reading via the internet eliminating the need to return the device for processing.

Do I Need a Control Dosimeter?
No, a control badge is used to subtract background radiation exposure during transit and while the badge is stored at the customer's facility. This exposure is accounted for and removed through the proprietary algorithm.

What If I Forget My Password?
Simply follow the Reset your password form and a temporary password will be sent to you.

How Often Should I Read My Instadose?
As part of a good “As Low As Reasonably Achievable” (ALARA) program, it is recommended devices be read once a week. Using the principles of ALARA means doing everything you can to minimize the affects of radiation to yourself and your patients.

How Do I Know My Device Is Working?
Every time the device is plugged into the USB port a self diagnostic is run on the device and any errors that are detected will be reported to the user.

Do I need to install any special hardware?
No, but your computer must have a free USB port.
