Your Response Matters

Position comfortably—usually upright preferred.
Ensure the patient is in a comfortable position before proceeding.
Administer Oral Carbohydrate.
Administer InstaGlucose inside of the mouth between the cheek and the gums. If available, allow the patient to sip on orange juice.
Permit recovery.
If patient remains conscious and alert, allow them to recover at their own pace. If patient loses consciousness, proceed to the tab labeled Patient is Unconscious.
Position supine with feet elevated slightly.
Contact EMS.
Before beginning any procedures, contact EMS immediately.
Provide oxygen.
Deliver oxygen at a rate of 15 liters per minute to the patient.
Do not administer oral carbohydrate.
Avoid putting anything into the unconscious victim’s mouth.
Monitor and record patient vital signs.
Check important vital signs, including BP, O₂ saturation, and respiratory rate.
